Inclement Weather

Dear Golden City Eagle Families,

Inclement wintry weather season is approaching. The decision of whether to not have school in person for the day, have students learn through an Alternate Methods of Instruction (AMI) Day, dismiss school early, or not call off school during inclement weather or other situations is often difficult. The decision involves consideration of multiple issues.

When a decision is made, the District will notify the community on social media and through the District School Messaging System Thrillshare. The alerts will go out before 10 p.m. the night before or after 5:00 a.m. if we are not having school in person. This will be in addition to television notifications on local news stations and our school Facebook page. If you do not currently receive notifications, messages, or calls from Thrillshare, we encourage you to contact the Elementary or High School office to make sure we have the correct information on file.

The district will use up to 3 Snow Days and 5 AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days.  This will help to prevent us from making up any days at the end of the school year. The first 3 inclement weather days will be made up per the school calendar.  The next five we will utilize AMI days. Teachers will send work home for all grade levels through packets, students are expected to complete the assignments and turn them in on the next school day for grading.

If school is dismissed early, a message will go out to parents as soon as the decision has been made so that you have as much time to plan as possible. As is the case when we don’t have school in person, it is the parents/guardians’ responsibility to make the necessary arrangements for this schedule change. We encourage you to talk and make plans now so these plans are made ahead of time.

If you as a parent feel it is unsafe to have your child(ren) attend school in person, please know that decision continues to be yours, one the school district will respect. However, all absences will be recorded. Only verified weather-related absences will be treated as “excused.”

If you have any questions, please contact either the High School or Elementary office. We will be more than happy to discuss this information with you. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dennis Kimzey

Golden City R-III Superintendent
